What is a rectification of resolution that grants the Residencia Definitiva permit?

Foreigners who are already holders of a Residencia Definitiva permit may eventually require changes in the documentation issued to them. For this reason, there is a procedure that allows correcting names, surnames, RUN, gender and/or nationality in the resolution that grants the Residencia Definitiva permit.

Where can I apply for the rectification of resolution that grants the Residencia Definitiva?

This request must be made through SERMIG’s Portal de Trámites Digitales, logging in with ClaveÚnica choosing the option “Rectificación de resolución que otorga la Residencia Definitiva”. The person must be within national territory.

Requirements

As an applicant or representative of a dependent child, you must attach the following documentation:

  • Image of passport identification sheet valid to date (validity is defined by the authority of origin of the document), which shows your personal information, date of birth, document number, among others. The passport is issued by the institution assigned to this task in the country of origin, or in Chile at the corresponding consular representation of which the person is a national (*).

(*) Mandatory document.

  • If the Resolution that grants the Residencia Definitiva was obtained after 1960, you must attach:
    • A document that certifies the modification of information such as DNI or passport (*), valid at the time of submitting the application (validity is defined by each country). The document must contain the applicant's information and must be obtained in their country of origin or in their consular representation in Chile.
  • If the Resolution that grants the Residencia Definitiva was obtained before 1960, you must attach:
    • Birth certificate of the applicant containing their personal information and those of his/her parents (*).

(*) These documents are mandatory.

If the applicant is a child or teenager dependent of the holder, you must certify the bond by attaching:

  • Birth certificate, obtained in the institution destined to issue civil documents in the country of which the person is a national, or legal guardianship, granted by judicial or notarial body. The document must be apostilled or duly legalized by the Chilean Consulate in the country of origin and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile. (*)

Important!

If you do not have a passport, you must attach a consular certificate that certifies your identity and correct nationality, valid at the time of submission (valid for 30 days from its issuance).

If both surnames of the person appear in the Resolución que otorga la Residencia Definitiva and you require that it is kept that way, the consular certificate must show both surnames.

This certificate is obtained at the consulate or embassy corresponding to the applicant’s current nationality. If the document is issued outside of Chile it must be apostilled or duly legalized by the Chilean Consulate in the country of origin and by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
