What is the citizen and non-citizen certificate?

It is a document that certifies whether or not you or another person obtained the Carta de Nacionalización in the country.

Where can I apply for these certificates?

Applications for these certificates are initiated on the Portal de Trámites Digitales of SERMIG, by logging in from within the national territory.

If you are a foreigner with Chilean citizenship, the certificate of that condition must be submitted by clicking on the following button:

If, on the other hand, you were a foreign person who does not have the status of a Chilean citizen, you must apply for the certificate by clicking on the following button:

Requirements

Certificate for persons with Chilean citizenship

  1. Application completely filled out with requested information.
  2. Cédula de Identidad (Chilean ID) of the applicant on both sides for any of the two certificates.
  3. Any updated document certifying your status as a Chilean citizen.

In case the certificate holder is deceased, the following document must be attached to the general documents:

  1. Partida de defunción [a special document different from the death certificate], stating the Chilean citizenship, granted by the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación (Not the death certificate issued by the Civil Registry and Identification Service).

In case you are under the Chile-Spain dual nationality agreement, you must attach:

  1. The corresponding document that certifies such condition.

Certificate for non-citizen persons

If you are applying for a certificate for persona no nacionalizada (non-citizen person), you must attach one of the following documents:

  1. Cédula de Identidad (Chilean ID) for foreigners.
  2. Valid foreign passport identification sheet.

If the certificate holder is deceased, the following documents must be attached to the general documents:

  1. Complete photocopy of the death certificate, stating citizenship, granted by the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación (SCReI) or death certificate from a foreign country, which must be apostilled or legalized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.
  2. Birth certificate issued by the SCReI or birth certificate from a foreign country, which must be apostilled or legalized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.

How to apply for these certificates?

Important!

The required certificate will be made with the identity that the person registers or registered in their Residencia Definitiva, Cédula de Identidad, or Carta de Nacionalización.

If the person consulted is not in the records (deceased) it will be entered according to how the person is registered in his Death Certificate.

All name variations must be certified with documents. If these documents are issued abroad, they must be apostilled or legalized as needed.
